Unpublish Yourselves

None of your information is private.

None of your personal details are safe

The only way to subvert

The Surveillance society

Is if we all just log off and disappear.

Keep the microchips away from the paranoid.

Welcome to the book that Orwell never wrote

anna  - death of privacy in the information age   |2008-04-12 11:15:31
This is a timely topic as privacy-wise the net and 3D world are getting creepier
with Government and Big Business demanding more and more information from us and
always looking for new and ever more intrusive ways of keeping tabs on our
activities as citizens and consumers. Couple these developments with anti terror
legislation that makes it much more easier to spy on ordinary citizens ,
legislation which has already been abused, and its not difficult to figure out
why we should be concerned about how our personal details and any other
information we are increasingly forced to provide are being used.

Love the
pics.

We're simply groping in the dark trying to second guess the full social impact
of information technology but as more and more information shifts from being
stored and processed in our heads to being stored and processed on machines
there may come a time when the majority of human beings on the planet become
redundant to the information gathering, storage and retrieval business. Losing
control of our personal information would seem to me to be the first step in
that direction .
Devon   |2008-04-12 14:33:55
I'm not going to argue with you guys on this one.
There's nothing warm and
fuzzy about it,
it's creepy crawly stuff.
D   |2008-04-12 15:17:04
Yeah, its very difficult to be realistically upbeat about the long term
implications of this stuff, it creeps me out too at times.
pleasantville kid   |2008-04-12 15:21:09
I have nothing to hide. Again, you guys naturally gravitate towards the worst
case scenario. This is progress man, embrace it or stay stuck in the past.
jillian   |2008-04-12 15:29:04
God is a troll.....not my idea of progress
Anonymous   |2008-04-12 15:33:36
I'm a thought criminal. Is the state eventually going to penalize me for this?
d   |2008-04-12 15:42:35
I'm more likely to be penalised for not thinking
pleasantville kid   |2008-04-12 15:49:27
You guys have some catching up to do..

"A team from the Max Panck
Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Germany has already
developed a powerful technique that allows them to look deep inside a person's
brain and read their intentions before they act.

The research breaks
controversial new ground in scientists' ability to probe people's minds and
eavesdrop on their thoughts, and raises serious ethical issues over how
brain-reading technology may be used in the future.

The team used
high-resolution brain scans to identify patterns of activity before translating
them into meaningful thoughts, revealing what a person planned to do in the near
future. It is the first time scientists have succeeded in reading intentions in
this way."

and

"Microsoft is apparently going sci-fi in the battle
with Apple for UI supremacy -- the company filed a patent application in August
for an EEG system that can classify a user's "brain states" as they work
with an interface, sorting them into one of eight categories: interruptability,
cognitive workload, task engagement, communication mediation, interpreting and
predicting system response, surprise, satisfaction, and frustration. According
to the patent application, Microsoft believes that "human beings are often
poor reporters of their own actions," and that properly filtered and
classified EEG data provides a "less interruptive and more informative
technique of determining user interface effectiveness."

It's a hell of alot easier to rewrite history than it is to detect the presence
of double agents.
frank   |2008-04-12 16:17:08
Jesus, why do I have this vision of the kid growing up in Westchester County
with the most expensive train set in the neighbourhood..
anna  - double agent   |2008-04-12 16:29:16
George Orwell provided the British Government with lists of people he thought
were crypto communists so in reality Animal Farm and 1984 , probably the two
most well known anti-totalitarian texts, were essentially 'Do as I Say not as
I Do' efforts.

The list included Charlie Chaplin, author & playright J.B.
Priestley, and the actor Michael Redgrave. Orwell also provided details on
lesser known figures , journalists and writers,

anna   |2008-04-13 16:50:08
we have learned to stare so deeply inside ourselves without gaining much useful
insight into our basic nature and we seem bent on reducing everything to the
level of mere information. it often feels to me that we are pulling ourselves
apart
jillian   |2008-04-13 21:12:37
getting off the radar, and not being found is key, even things like reunion.com
give me the creeps.
d   |2008-04-14 00:32:13
living below the radar used to be easy, nowadays its almost impossible to. I am
a very private person but we now face demands to provide our personal details
at almost every turn. This constant demand to expose ourselves has become
another social pressure. I certainly feel it.
Pleasantville Kid   |2008-04-14 01:44:29
well, my facebook info is just another part of my resume, like I said before, I
don't have anything to hide.

I'm sort of chuckling now thinking about how
paranoid you guys are, real drama queens if you ask me.

Don't worry, it's not
illegal to be a thoughht criminal, and the only reason you might be perceived as
social deviants is because you joke with God, and you're overly concerned about
the issue of class. In many ways the availability of hardcore porn is not
nearly as shocking as some of the things you talk about here......weird.
anna   |2008-04-14 06:12:41
Hardcore pornography is now as mainstream in the US as apple pie. No one is
shocked by this save perhaps the Christian Right , who probably spend more of
their disposable income than any other group purchasing pornographic content and
sexual services.
Sarah   |2008-04-16 04:54:02
To quote a friend of mine: "Everything is more psychedelic than ever now,
and at the same time, things have never been more black and white".

Could
help to explain why so many people have personality disorders, myself included.

The human virus is a rogue nation.

Life has virally infected me and there isnt a survivable antidote.
d   |2008-04-20 14:03:14
there is great quote by orwell , i heard a friend mention it, from 1984 i think
about the future being a boot in the face , wish i could find it to post
bjorn  - orwell quote   |2008-06-22 23:57:45
there ya go Sarah

"If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot
stamping on a human face - forever."

Having lived with an std for 30 or so years, I can empathize with Nietzsche's
dysfunctional
relationships with women, although it remains in question whether
or not he was actually afflicted with an std. When I meet someone, I carry the
weight on my shoulders up the hill, fall down and start over again....or I just
act stupid and run away...guilt, shame...
excommunicated....banished...exiled....
...delete d...burn this body...reboot.
