installation Tate Modern

in the digital galleries of the now
the portraits come to life
by the second
to draw us into their crafted landscapes
offering us a glimpse of their wealth and power
their social class , background and education
their natural environment
their deep connection with the culture
their wide ranging interests and abilities
their resumes and career prospects
their artwork
their coolness
their familes , pets , partners and sexual prowess
their ideal homes
the contents of their lives
their religious beliefs
their egos
their ethnicity
their latest consumer durables

their politics and goals...
their favourite sports teams
their ailments
their gang membership
their emotional side
their worst nightmares
their definitive CD collections
their home videos
their cutting edge designer clothes

their hopes for the future
their crazy nights out

but most of all their sheer interestedness
and their huge collection of similar portraits
of their friends

hard to believe, but some people are really validated! I recently had a friend
tell me that those of us that don't have any family ties, community support or
social connections, those invaluable connections that confirm our existence, can
either commit suicide, or finally just stop suffering, after suffering so much,
and for so long......she said the next step is to grasp the non-self in order to
put an end to the suffering and perpetual invalidation, either that, or commit
suicide. You know those Buddhists, they always say that you have to get to the
place where you no longer care that no one gives a fuck about your well being,
they even say that we're here to learn how to be ok about not being loved. It's
the same talk about radical acceptance that gets tossed around in therapeutic
communities.

Your friend is right, it takes little effort to come to terms with being unloved
, poor or eventual death, at ones own hand or otherwise but Bhuddism and
Psychotherapy have very little to say about reconciling tensions within society.

I'm not so sure no one cares either.
