the broken showman's last trick by autotelic

The snake oil peddlars are back in town again
Camped out at the field of dreams
They arrived overnight and always draw in the same old crowd
Only I'm jostling with them for salvation this time
Perusing the stalls for rarefied air
Instant social amnesia
Or a sweet Jesus remedy from a man on stilts
But each row of distractions just leads back to the horror of it all.

The slick stallholders relieving the gullible  punters of their dollar notes
The fucking priests, freaks and whores mopping up all the loose change
'We need a Union' whisper  the Siamese twins joined at the head
As the weeping clowns are deported on the Ghost train
There should be laws to protect the broke , broken and spiritually short changed

There really should be

God knows

There really should..

good one bjorn, i like this one even more than the 'casino capitalism' piece

I liked this one too and I know that horror only two well. Thought the piece was
a bit harsh on freaks and whores but know you probably werent using those terms
literally.

just call me carnie boy, it's not on my resume though, really really like this
piece, suppose we all spent time trying to grasp the illusive magic that can't
be found in a house of cards, always have to return to the horror of it all.

It always comes back to the motif of death:
The Broken Showman's Last
Trick
(MADE ME LAUGH!)

Love it or hate it, this is entertainment

I left the stage when I was 30, I knew there weren't any more roles for me to
play, that's what happens when you're born old.
desik   |2008-06-10 14:23:23
You can leave the stage but the demand for peformance doesnt end there.
desik   |2008-06-10 14:25:30
I mean, we cant escape the demands that we put on a good performance. Its lights
, action showtime until that last breath.

I wouldn't mind being someone's last trick

I felt uncomfortable after I posted last week and admitted that it's IMPOSSIBLE
for me to get laid, it was hard for me to admit it to myself, let alone on a
message board, but the more I look around this site, the more I realize that I'm
not the biggest victim here.
WOO! (wipes sweat off forehead)
I'm also a really
mediocre guitar player, but I have ample evidence that my parents love me.
D   |2008-06-12 04:35:19
Parental love is pretty key to survival and I can assure you that life has a lot
less meaning and purpose without it . There is a good chance you'll get laid at
some point David, even if you have to pay for the pleasure but if you miss out
on parental love you dont get another chance and its pretty difficult to
compensate.

Practice your guitar playing you can always get better.
