ground zero, september 11th 2008
the twin towers remain standing in an infinite number of other new york city's
populated by people going about their daily business , chores and leisure
in the majority of other new york's there simply was no terrorist plan on 9/11/01
and usually where there was one it was rumbled and thwarted by the authorities
or Superman
or the terorists failed to go through with it
or the planes were forced down
the weather frustrated the plot
Bin Laden relented
etc, etc, etc
or the twin towers themselves had simply never been built
or were better built to sustain traumatic impacts and structural failure
or were rented out as apartments
or housed the movie industry
or were hit but empty
or where the twin towers were hit in those other new york's the death toll was  lower  or worse
or there were almost miraculously no fatalities at all

the twin towers remain standing in an infinite number of other new york city's  
and there is no memory of death and mass destruction on 9/11/01
no awareness of any war on terror
no fearful politicking around the concept of homeland security
no wars in iraq or afghanistan
no energy crisis
no food crisis
no global population problems
no global warming
no great threat to bio diversity
no lethal threat to the survival of the polar bears
in some of those infinite universes the polar bears  run Alaska
and have strict quotas on how many people they can hunt
and the arctic ice remains expansive and stable
and in most of these other realities
the oil and water wars are never going to happen

ground zero
today
in the new york on this planet
the twin towers are no longer there
and we have no way to connect with all the other almost identical universes they survived in
we have no way of accessing that level of parallel materiality or consciousness
through string theory
spiritualism
wishful thinking
magic
or anything else
in all probability we'll never   know the cause, workings, purpose and limits of consciousness
its a sisyphusean task to even try to
as consciousness cannot eat  itself
but we can respond to the problems we face on this planet differently
and each decision we make helps fashion the reality we're confronted with
the planes hit the twin towers
they hit them again and again and again in grey grainy slow motion
so isnt it about time we stopped trapping ourselves in them
and started making decisions about repairing our universe

before the last forests fall
