digital materialism by autotelic

" Capitalism as we used to know it is on its deathbed. And those who predicted that the old brand, the unfettered, American-promoted system, was a danger to the world, are being vindicated. They include Karl Marx, whose thinking on banks seems oddly contemporary these days.

The credit crisis  that began in August last year and turned into near-catastrophe this month is not over, despite the hundreds of billions of dollars that governments are spending to save banks in the United States and Europe from collapse and thereby prevent a global depression. But there is an emerging consensus that capitalism needs a 21st century overhaul, not just emergency rescues, to save it from itself."

thank you for your continued posts on the desperation of it all

It's really back to school again on this as the architects of Capitalism 2.0
are going to come under tremendous pressure from the environmental and poverty
lobbies as it aint just the banking system that's out of kilter with the times
the global economy is killing the fucking planet .

With already stretched
finite resources we cant continue with a system based on perpetual growth nor
can we ignore population increase, we'll be at 9 billion within 40 years. Unless
there's some Plan B to go colonise another planet we need to drastically reduce
our activities and numbers on this one .

Went to hear a talk on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Art tonight but came
away really disappointed with how little AI has advanced in recent years as I
now know my mail order all compliant fembot isnt going to be arriving any
time soon!

On subject of New World Order though last night's Final Debate
between Obama and McCain made me wonder when we'll get an AI Presidential
Candidate to spare us the sorry spectacle of watching fully grown politicians
having a live pissing contest to establish which one of them gets to rule the
most powerful country in the world. If its the ability to answer rapid fire
questions that establishes the guy for the top job then shouldnt it be offered
to that dude who won Jeopardy about 60 times in a row a couple of years
ago?

I think most people would prefer a President who took more time to think
things over.

'Hey George lets invade Iraq.....'.

'Hmmmm I dont know about
that let me reflect on it for a while..oh fuck it, yeah , why not?...'

Is it
the ability to bulshit that's being assessed? Hardly reassuring! Or is it the
ability to remember lines and smile? Ronald Reagan was pretty good at the
latter.

No , I think people need to be able to vote for a really
intelligent machine programmed to care as these squallid and pathetic pissing
contests degrade us all and at this point of the presidential electoral process
both candidates are just appealing to prejudices or the fucking mob anyway.
Besides modern life has diminished us as individuals in every way and maybe we
could embed a lot more positive collective humanity into an intelligent
machine which would take its time to make decisions considering as many views
as possible.
