in my case, it's death of the author, and well, forget about birth of the
reader! Maybe I should read 'The War of Art' again. Hmm, is there any reason
to create art after the ego has been obliterated? What do I know? I'm a
fucking satirist! Maybe I'll just get a tattoo of the redstarfist on my first
chakra.
vinny   |2008-12-09 04:01:12
the world has run amok with a plethora of exquisite dilettantes........no wonder
so many old skoolers are feeling out of place and uninspired.......and don't
even get me started about the grand jargon of the artist's statement!
Anon   |2008-12-09 04:12:55
its simply that being precedes the visual and all the other senses
jillian   |2008-12-09 05:51:56
too funny, the guilty won't recognize themselves in this pic, so I think you got
away with something once again.

They're not going to think this is funny you
know.
But why why why don't "they" think this is funny?
I guess no one
is ever really ready to die.

(Nice to see a decent picture of autotelic,
vanity publishing I reckon?)

not to change the subject, but, I'm really proud
of you guys for moving beyond your suicidal ideation, I think it's a real
testimony of brute strength in the face of overwhelming odds.
PL  - rocket from the tombs   |2008-12-09 14:29:19
Ha! Those with blind faith in mass culture are not even ready for their
hopes, dreams and ambitions to die so doubt they'll see the funny side or
reflect on the deeper existential problem hinted at here. Their blind faith is a
sort of 'living death' as well . I guess we have a responsibility to try to
avoid this ' living death ' too and resist some of the clamour and noise of
culture in order to live more consciously .Its paradoxical ! For sure we need
buffers and to belong but we dont need to be buried alive under an all
protective delusional belongingness as its this deep rooted culture of denial
that will fucking bury us as a species if we just throw up our arms and
surrender to it. We've probably reached that point in history where we need to
collectively acknowledge our mortality in order to survive.

( btw Great pic
of autotelic but where's dulce? )
CaSkateguy   |2008-12-09 14:33:02
this would look great on a t shirt
rayman   |2008-12-10 02:24:48
It's very simple, you have a problem with Flickr or other public image hosting
sites, keep your crap off them. How funny is that!!!!
Anonymous  - dear rayman   |2008-12-17 06:30:48
it's very funny, it always has been, we refuse to take ourselves seriously,
especially when we're making art.
thepleasantvillekid   |2008-12-17 16:00:30
You guys should be more openly spiritual, I've so found myself since relocating
to SLC. I have a new girl too, Sadie and we're saving ourselves. Her dad owns
half of Provo so I've kinda landed on my feet in hard times, I'm just doing the
door to door gig at the moment and its really empowering to help bring the light
into peoples lives. Gotta go, getting measured up for a new suit . Regards to
Red.
thepleasantvillekid  - Huh?   |2008-12-17 16:02:26
ps

What the heck is this pic about?
red vinegar   |2008-12-18 15:55:37
hey kid, i never thought of you as one to suffer from "vanity
publishing" issues. So I doubt the answer to your question would make you
feel uncomfortable.....just read the above comments again, you'll figure it out.
thepleasantvillekid  - If you dont try....   |2008-12-18 23:00:40
Red,

...well I do have some old water colourings of Westchester I was
thinking of creating an online gallery for , they are crude but probably have a
monetary value .If you've got it flaunt it right? Right now though outside of
LDS work we're really focussing on Sadie's music , just at keroake level at the
moment , covers of old country songs and Barbara Streisland hits that type of
thing but I think Sadie has what it takes to go all the way but we're keeping
our feet firmly on the ground, not getting beyond ourselves , nothing happens
without God's help. I think she sounds like Stevie Nicks . Her dad has been a
great help too.
Red aCID Vinegar   |2008-12-19 03:41:14
sounds romantic kid, and that's not good, maybe I was wrong, perhaps you do
suffer from vanity publishing issues, but that's not really the red flag here,
it's the romanticism that sounds gravely dangerous.

Perhaps the TMT experts
could use your material to expand their theory, especially since they're running
out of ideas and funding.

(i don't envy you kid, not one damn bit)
autotelic   |2008-12-19 03:59:42
in other words kid, this too shall disappoint, sooner or later you'll get
completely burned out on life, and all of its meaningless demands....demands
that aren't designed to make you happy! Watch out for people pleasing kid, it's
a trap, I promise.

why are most humans such social animals?.......Their idea
of a dream come true is my idea of an exhausting, draining nightmare.

The
good news is: we're seeing the rise of more autistic children, praise the lord
for giving us autistic children that just want to be left the fuck alone!
thepleasantvillekid   |2008-12-19 14:33:51
Red,

I used to be like you , cynical about life then I found God and a God
fearing community and that old me has gone. As for romance, Sadie and I are made
for each other , yeah I was hurt when my previous girlfriend struck out the
moment my fathers firm crashed and the police were called in but that and my
time in SLC has grounded me, I am no longer so interested in material things , I
can appreciate the small things in life, I sleep easier at nights.

Anyway,
have to scoot as I need to get the jeep running as I have to take Sadie over to
Soundcity as her dad has booked her a week in the studio.
Frank  - Making June Happy   |2008-12-19 14:33:11
I spent from February 14th 1992 the date of our romantic Las Vegas wedding to
October 16th 2005 the date we unsealed the deal trying to please my wife June
and we accidentally met up in a bar in town a couple of years later, you know
how that goes, and after deliberately ignoring each other for a while I bit the
bullet and sidled over to her and bought her a drink and asked 'Were you ever
happy with us?' and she said no. Then she asked me the same question and I said
I'd never been happy either. There had always been incompatibilities. But the
admissions exorcised the ghosts and we laughed and had a few more drinks and
engaged in some superficial conversation then this large lady turned up at the
bar and draped her arm around June a bit too tightly and said ' Is this guy
bothering you honey?' My ex made excuses about my being an old friend. When the
large lady walked down the bar to get some ice for her drink I said to June '
Hey are you ok? and she shot me a sad pleading look. 'Just go she said,
please'.I left without finishing my drink.

"sadie and I were made for each other."
It's romantic kid, people are
people.

Real relationships aren't designed to make people happy, but you've
got the bucks to have fun, for awhile, but the minute you start to feel like a
trapped animal, you have to be responsible and tell Sadie immediately.
thepleasantvillekid   |2008-12-19 23:37:00
I'm happy to limit myself Red, that's a consequence of embracing God in my life
and being in love with the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.
tony65   |2008-12-20 04:29:33
Jesus, I prefer the worst vanity publishing to being forced to read this
romantic crap. I'm not sure the concept of romance is going to survive the 21st
century.

Not exactly the secret rendevous point for the 'Life is a Beach ' crowd is it?
Even at this time of year in my neck of the woods it just gets too hot most days
to worry about any of this shit. My two cents worth? Life is voluntary throw
yourself into it or opt out.
Overman/Underman   |2008-12-22 02:30:59
I decided to opt out of life, deference isn't part of my nature, but it
does work for most people, and I'll always be baffled as to why.
Erving   |2008-12-22 15:36:20
Deference enables the socialised individual to sustain her own face and protect
the face of others in society. The problem is society isnt particularly keen on
interacting with borderline types who dont quite get the subtly of the rules of
social engagement nor understand the sheer horror of losing face. I guess most
people go along with these rules to avoid social death whereas the borderline
personality usually already feels pretty ghostlike within the culture
LowLander  - Defrence is Divinely Inspired   |2008-12-22 20:33:11
The explanation is very simple sweetheart, deference is in the natural order of
things as the race of man loves a Lord.
Albini  - Boss Culture   |2008-12-22 22:29:24
Deference isnt only a problem at the personal level - and yes we definitely need
to sustain our ' selves ' before the demands of 'significant' others - its role
in public life is a fucking joke too!

We live in a Boss Culture - just look
at all the bullying tv reality shows reinforcing the ' Shut it - You're Fired '
shit .

We only need to look at the defiance of the kids battling with cops
on the streets in Greece to know how trusting, compliant and downtrodden we have
become.
Betty F.  - wife trauma   |2008-12-23 01:46:43
deference to a lord, I've done that before, and I didn't feel threatened,
compromised, or trapped, but deference to a "life partner" makes no
sense at all, completely unnatural to those of us that have a killer instinct to
uphold free will at all costs......I am a borderline, I'm not a reliable or
dependable mate...why defer to a mortal man? I'm totally addicted to my
autonomy.

And besides, many of us get our community and service needs met
through the work we do.

Dont Answer This Ad if You Think Relationships = Happiness

You're
aware of the human condition and also feel existentially lonely but you
are still pretty sure of who you are and wise enough to realise that
just throwing yourself at someone isnt going to cut it.

You may also
find it increasingly difficult to talk to people because they are so
materialistic or superficial.

At the same time you dont want to deny
life you want to live it but in a way that transcends the mundane
options pushed by the culture. You are not great relationship material nor
am I . We've both learned this . Maybe you have
uncompromisable interests in the arts , sciences , spirituality or the
life of the mind.

You could be a seeker , an environmentalist or a
complete outsider setting out on the journey or well into it , even
just considering it .You could be a saint or a sinner, it doesnt
really matter You are into you but in the quieter confessional hours you
know intimacy beyond the unsustainable fuck buddy dynamic is
an issuie.

How do we grow?

I have nothing to say to anyone
caught up with romantic notions or intent on killing time over Christmas.
