i had a terrible dream about a ghost train that never stops to let passengers on or off
a mysterious mechanical spectre running deep underground
through tunnels of cold damp stone
howling into each abandoned station 

thundering through
to a relentless cyclical timetable
with no destination

up front the driven engineer dead-eyed in the cab
behind,  the trailing empty carriages with all lights dimmed

lit only by the enraged sparks flying  up from the screeching rails
the ghost train rattling on 

the icy blast of its cold sudden passing
raises goosebumps

stinging breath on ageing skin
